There are many different types of heating solutions for homes and offices. One of the most popular methods is to use a radiator. These heat up a room through a conduit system, and typically, a separate unit is required for each room. These are often found in older buildings, where it is too expensive to install central heating. In the past, the main negative of these units is that they were ugly to look at. So designer systems were invented to offer more attractive options.

Designer radiators still provide the same heating function, but are engineered to look much attractive, and are often able to function more efficiently, as well. They are no longer industrial looking and bulky, and instead seem as if they were part of the overall room decor. Additionally, many companies now offer types and models made to match a customer’s specific preferences in both interior design and budget. There are several basic groups of solutions, and here are some of the most popular:

Some designer radiators use wide tubes made out of stainless steel, and these are perfect to go into the more modern houses. By placing the unit along the wall, homeowners are left with a very elegant finish.

Other models are tall and thin, and can be integrated along columns if you have a house that has a more rustic style. These can then provide heat throughout the entire height of the room, and the radiators are made to look like part of the column.

Single panel devices can be covered by a front panel that makes the whole object look like a large, flat box, and which now be put against a wall with other decorative square-shaped objects as camouflage.

There are also models that have stylish glass fronts where the heating element isn’t seen at all, and instead it is hidden inside a room that has glass as a featured element.

A fairly new technique has a model that is reversed, with the tubes placed horizontally. These are called towel radiators, and the whole system can be put in front of a window and a passerby would never know what it is.

Finally, there are several decorative types of insulation, such as aluminium reflection foil, that can be placed on the wall along the conduit, to reflect the heat and improve the warming process, which reduces the total number of devices needed.

While a radiator may still be the best option for heating a particular home, there is no longer a need to settle for an iron monstrosity that is kept in a corner or disguised with a mass-produced cover. And the days are now gone where all radiators looked alike. Instead designer brands are replacing the more traditional models, providing a much better solution for the modern house by allowing homeowners to have attractive and unique rooms, without having to sacrifice on energy costs. After all, no one wants to be forced to choose between expressing his tastes and keeping warm.

If you’re considering DIY and home renovation projects, you’re probably already looking forward to the work being completed. However, there are many common pitfalls that people carrying out DIY jobs can encounter, and if you want to make sure you don’t end up with a leak, lumpy walls or misaligned shelves, it’s wise to do some reading up before embarking on any projects.

Walls

Perhaps your property could do with a fresh lick of paint, or you’re thinking of hanging some new wallpaper, in which case you’ll need to make sure the walls are properly prepped. This might involve removing the current coating and plastering them to avoid any protruding lumps. Some walls will require sanding to take paint and avoid peeling, while if you’re hanging wallpaper you’ll need to get the measurements exact.

Paper will require smoothing over to remove any air pockets and if you’re paining, you might need to apply a few coats to create a smooth and consistent finish. It’s useful to cover skirting boards with masking tape to avoid any mistakes or drips.

If you’re planning to put up shelves, using a spirit level is vital to avoid wonkiness. It’s also worth thinking about what’s behind the walls you plan to erect shelving on – you’ll need to take extra care if there is pipework behind them as you won’t want to drill into these. In the same vein, make sure you know where your home’s stopcock is, so you can turn the water supply off if necessary before you begin work.

Bathrooms

Making changes to the bathroom is a popular way of renovating a property and making it more appealing. If you’re considering using wood – perhaps to make panels for the bath – remember to use primers or the wood will swell and could rot. You might also need to give some thought to the ease of being able to remove such panels in the event of a leak, when you will need fast access to the bath’s pipes.

Installing new tiles is a great way to spruce up a bathroom, but this can be more complicated than simply pulling up a carpet or other floor covering and laying the new surface. The sub floor material needs to be stable; otherwise, tiles may pop up or crack.
In terms of tiling walls, getting the spacing and alignment spot on will be your main consideration to create a professional look, but it’s also important to mix the grout properly or you risk it not setting and tiles coming loose.

When purchasing tiles or wallpaper, be sure to buy more than you need. Tiles can easily break or need to be cut to fit, while paper – when cut to size – might leave numerous smaller sections that would look inconsistent on the walls.

Plumbing

Plumbing in a toilet, bath or shower can also be a difficult feat – especially for someone who is approaching the task with no prior experience. If you’re confident you can complete the job, it will require lots of prior reading and preparation, but if at any time you feel out of your depth, it could be the best step to employ a professional.

By getting the experts in to deal with jobs that require a set standard of skill, you can be confident of the end result. It can also be much quicker to utilise the skills of a professional and potentially save you money, as having a go yourself could cause more harm than good.

Wiring

The same can be said when it comes to wiring. If you plan to install a new light fitting, you might be able to complete a simple job yourself, but if you require a whole new lighting structure it would be wise to bring in the professionals.

DIY fans run the risk of electric shock, so to eradicate the threat always turn off the circuit breaker or remove the fuse when carrying out electricity-related tasks. If your property was built before 1940, you might need to root around for more than one circuit breaker.

It’s also vital to make sure receptacles are wired with the correct grounding and polarity – it’s worth remembering that homes built before the 1960s may not have a grounding path, thus you will need to seek out expert help.

Even the newest, cleanest house can fall victim to pests. From squirrels gnawing on roof tiles to carpenter ants infiltrating your house, at some point most homeowners will need the services of an exterminator, either to get rid of a problem or to prevent one from starting. But not all exterminators are created equal, so here are some tips on how to select the best one for you.

First, look for exterminators who are full-time professionals. It’s not that part-timers can’t be good, but the odds are that full-timers will be more experienced. You should also look for someone who is credentialed either through the National Pest Control Association (NPMA) or state or regional organizations. The NPMA is the only national organization overseeing the exterminator industry. Consumers can check that a particular company is a member by visiting www.pestworld.org.

Ask if the exterminator has taken courses or has been otherwise trained. The majority of states have specific requirements and mandate that exterminators be trained and certified and, in some locations, licensed.

Another way to check on a company is through the Better Business Bureau, which keeps track of complaints. Some social network sites such as Angie’s List can be terrific sources of information because the “reviews” are written by fellow consumers who have used the services of the professional in question. Also, getting referrals by friends and relatives is also another good way to help locate the right professional for your needs.

Once you have chosen an exterminator, make sure they follow industry protocol, such as using the methods outlined in the National Pest Control Association’s Approved Reference Procedure Manual. The exterminator should also provide the cost for the service being rendered, such as a yearly maintenance contract or to get rid of a specific pest. Annual contracts typically include yearly termite inspections. If asked, exterminators need to show the consumer their insurance certificate.

While exterminators can be necessary to keep a home or property vermin- and pest-free, many people worry about the potential dangers of the products used. Many companies now use non-toxic, eco-friendly, and pet-safe products so that you can both be free of pests but keep your pets and family healthy.

Industrial cleaning machines have undoubtedly made the cleaning tasks in any kind of organization much easier than before. Earlier, companies used to deploy manual workforce for getting things done whereas now, most of the activities have been automated.

While all this sounds good to the ears, things get a bit complicated when it comes to actually selecting and purchasing the correct industrial cleaning machines for the organization. You need to execute the purchase in such a fashion, that nothing goes wrong in selecting the correct size, shape and capacity of the machines which you procure.

One way to make things trouble-free to certain extent is by taking the help of the internet while selecting the correct cleaning machines for your organization. Surf the internet for websites of vendors which deal in such machines, and are present in your vicinity. Go through the products which they deal in and depending upon your requirements, select the models which may fulfil your needs. In most of the cases, you’ll find that the price of different machines is also listed on the vendors’ websites. Thus, you can even make the final selection at the click of a mouse while sitting at the place of your comfort.

You only need to visit the vendors to verify whether the physical stature of different machines matches with what has been listed on their websites or not. This way you can save yourself from unwanted hard work which you would otherwise need to put in.

Article by Stefan Meyer

Having a garden shed in the back yard can supply you with the needed space to store your garden tools. This will free up space in your garage so you might actually be able to park your car in it. There are prefabricated garden sheds available for purchase at most local home improvement stores. But if you want to save some money or just want to have a custom shed size, building your own is the way to go. There are also kits available that include everything you need to build your shed.

So if you are building your own shed and it is going to be permanent, it can be placed on concrete blocks. If you are building a temporary one, you might want to put it on pressure treated skids so it can be easily disassembled. No matter what foundation you decide on, the spot on which you are going to build needs to be leveled before construction can begin.

First, you want to create the floor by cutting 2 x 6 pressure treated boards to lie flush with the outer edge of the block or your skids. Band joists are then cut to lay on top. Make sure the corners fit together and then secure them with galvanized nails. Next, you will need to lay out your joists. Start the first one 15 1/4 inches from the end and mark the rest at 16 inch centers thereafter.

Next, you need to cut 2 x 6 joists and position them between the outside wall frame. As flooring you will want to use at least 3/4 inch thick plywood. To attach the floor to the joists, you need to use 8 pound galvanized nails. Then you need to cut your wall plates for the long walls and position all studs on 16 inch centers except for the first one which will be at the 15 1/4 inch mark. Install triple studs at both ends of the wall for nailing purposes. Mark a rough opening where you want your door on the plates and then build your headers from 2 x 6 boards and sandwich them around a half inch wide spacer. Next, you want to attach the siding to each wall and secure the walls to the floor.

Finally, you need to build roof trusses and fasten them to the building. The roof will be made out of plywood. After attaching the plywood to the trusses, you can finish the roof by using shingles or any kind of metal roofing. So if you decide to build your garden shed, using these tips to guide you will help you with your project.

Laying your own floor tiles isn’t as tricky as you may think. There are a few guidelines that you need to pay attention to but the job is undoubtedly achievable.

Vinyl floor tiles are very effective as bathroom tiles because they’re cozy underfoot as well as simple to wipe clean.

Firstly, it should be noted that you shouldn’t put bathroom tiles on existing tiles. The main reason is that the floor beneath might not be as secure as you think, therefore making your top flooring unsecure, regardless of how perfectly you stick it down.

Old vinyl tiles can be taken off by using a high quality floor scraper and, unfortunately, a considerable amount of effort. A hot air gun can certainly help loosen the glue, making the tiles much easier to remove and the glue much easier to scrape.

          ]]>

If possible, the skirting boards should also be carefully taken off. When you reinstate the skirting, it will conceal any faults in your cutting skills.

Usually, you’ll have square floor tiles, making the majority of the laying simple. The difficulty lies in the bows in the wall and any appliances you need to fit the flooring around, like the sink or lavatory.

The best thing for you to do is to create a floor plan and cut your tiles based on that. Dry lay the tiles on the floor and mark the floor as required. To cut around awkward shapes, it can be easier to create a cardboard template and use that to guide your cutting. Otherwise, buy a profile gauge.

When using your glue, ensure that it’s one recommended by the tile maker. Do not get out more adhesive than needed since it will dry before you get a chance to use it. Supply for about ten minutes of tiling should be about right. Wipe any excess glue as you go.

Once you have stuck down your entire floor and it has properly dried out, you can then re-affix your skirting and admire your handywork.

Laying your own bathroom tiles is easier than you might think and definately worth a go if you are generally competent in DIY.
